Press report from 07. January 2018

SAVVY® Telematic Systems AG, has a new customer: Schweizerische Bundesbahnen SBB (Swiss Federal Railways). A long-term partnership is planned to continuously improve SBB railroad vehicle fleet management productivity by providing and processing telematic and sensor-based data. After conducting an evaluation, Swiss Federal Railways chose SAVVY® Telematic Systems AG. Work on the track maintenance trains, switch engines and 10 other vehicle types belonging to the SBB infrastructure began in October 2017.

SBB AG needs reliable data on SBB railroad wagon operations and positions to optimise their operations and maintenance. The invitation to tender stipulated that hardware and software with a minimum life cycle of seven years was required for its “GPS rail vehicles – HW and portal solution” project. SAVVY offered a telematics system solution based on innovative hardware and software technologies tailored to SBB’s needs and was awarded the contract in mid-August 2017. To enable cost-efficient software operations, SBB required an SaaS solution that also enables flexible user management, mobile access, personalised data visualisation and ad-hoc evaluations.

WE SAY THANK YOU

“It was clear from the requirements that they were looking for a highly flexible and innovative system with which SBB would be able to achieve an excellent position both in the short and long term”, explains Aida Kaeser, CEO, SAVVY® Telematic Systems AG. “We are proud that we have more than exceeded the expectations and can offer SBB a highly automated future-proof solution which we very much look forward to expanding into a strategic collaboration.”

Aida Kaeser
Co-founder & CEO SAVVY® Telematic Systems AG

During the first phase of the project, SAVVY® will equip 250 SBB railroad wagons with high-performance SAVVY® FleetTrac telematics units; in the second phase, up to 500 more railroad wagons will follow. The data gathered from the hardware is automated and brought together in the SAVVY® Synergy Portal, the central management platform. In accordance with SBB’s tender documents, all SAVVY® Synergy Portal users should be in the 3 to 4 digit range and access distributed among approximately 50 different user groups. This allows SBB to always have access to reliable, consistent operating data and position information.

News: SAVVY und SBB Partnerschaft
A long-term partnership is planned to continuously improve SBB railroad vehicle fleet management productivity by providing and processing telematic and sensor-based data.

Thanks to the manufacturer-independence and high connectivity of SAVVY hardware and software, SBB infrastructure is also able to consolidate the telematic systems currently in use. Last but not least, the consistent data collected from a central location is automatically available for other business applications or effective evaluations. SAVVY technology’s consistent data management and openness support SBB infrastructure in continuing to effectively develop its fleet management processes and the forward-looking services based on them.

WE SAY THANK YOU

“SAVVY® Synergy Enterprise Portal business intelligence has been proven to ensure a high degree of efficiency in different telematics and IT infrastructures, and across systems. In this context, portal systems are not emergency solutions that have to compensate the lack of interface standards.

Their openness makes it possible to integrate the existing components worldwide to form a comprehensive solution. And their flexibility ensures that telematics infrastructures are future-proof. Because, regardless of the future path of logistics in relation to Industry 4.0 and smart devices, our open collaboration platform, SAVVY® Synergy Portal, will always be at the forefront.”

Aida Kaeser
Co-founder & CEO SAVVY® Telematic Systems AG

The SAVVY solution creates a basis with which SBB infrastructure is able to both continue to optimise the transparency and productivity of its fleet management for day-to-day operations but also to develop forward-looking services tailored to the needs of its internal customers.

Press report from 19. October 2017
News: CIMC

Digitalisierung in der gesamten Logistikkette: Monitoring und Echtzeit-Steuerung werden bei temperaturgeführten Transporten immer wichtiger.

The unusual heat wave in June of this year is only one of the many extreme phenomena that has characterised the weather in the last few years. The increasingly dynamic changes in the weather situation and the rise in extreme conditions pose new challenges in sectors previously unaffected by the weather. One example is transport logistics for temperature-sensitive goods. To ensure product quality during shipping, real-time monitoring and temperature control are increasingly important.

Not too hot and not too cold: is it possible to monitor in real-time, remotely control product temperatures, and provide uninterrupted accurate quality proofs along the logistics chain? SAVVY Telematic Systems AG offers its customers temperature remote control and adjustment from any location at any time. Dispatchers at desktop computers or shipment staff members on business trips can correct and/or adjust temperatures from a smartphone. Likewise, where temperature deviations or disturbances arise, designated persons are automatically notified.

Two clicks suffice to configure the escalation workflow as needed. Ongoing temperature monitoring ensures optimum quality and safety for temperature-controlled shipments. SAVVY’s solution enables operators, leasing firms, and chemical  companies to offer their end customers new services that reduce costs and further increase transport productivity. For example, shipments can be automatically and precisely pre-heated or cooled for the respective goods. Exact protocolling means there is always a record of when and how long the tank container was pre-heated, and the temperature at which it was put into operation. This is not only a reliable basis for billing tank container heating costs. All of the record protocols are available retroactively as quality proofs, so taking manual – and error-prone – notes of product temperatures or pre-heating duration is no longer necessary.

FEEDBACK

“We have equipped our tank containers with the SAVVY® FleetTrac. This means we have taken the next step in further improving investment security for our customers. Thanks to SAVVY’s state-of-the-art telematics technology, uninterrupted, digital temperature protocols are not the only thing we are getting. The sophisticated alarm, diagnosis and control options offered by the SAVVY® Synergy Portal (Chinese version www.tankmiles.com) enables unprecedented real-time management for temperature-controlled shipments.”

David Wang
Sales Director, CIMC TANK

Worldwide, a number of companies specialised in chemical products or food products use SAVVY’s solution to monitor and control trace heating and cooling units remotely. Examples are Respol Resinas S.A., a chemical company from Portugal (www.respol.pt), China-based Wanhua Chemical Group Co., Ltd. (http://en.wanhuagroup.com) or the world market leader for tank container (CIMC). In the case of disturbances, deviances from target temperatures or other events, an automatic alarm is immediately triggered. This enables shipment personnel to intervene without delay.

Robust, and thanks to their very low power consumption, also suited for long autonomous operation, the telematics units are connected by interfaces to the container and tank wagon heating and/or cooling units. SAVVY’s intelligent interface architecture makes it possible to use the technology with a broad range of manufacturing systems. Currently, there are SAVVY® telematics units in operation in all established heating and cooling systems such as Dirac, Eltherm, Löbbe and Klinge. During operations, the units record the current temperatures and transmit them to the SAVVY® Synergy Portal (winner of the Telematic Award for the best tank container logistics solution, November 2016 – Link). This enables both real-time monitoring and, later on, seamless proof of quality. The cloud-based SAVVY® Synergy Portal enables dispatchers to also have access to the individual units worldwide and maintain granular control over target values and unit parameters.

WE SAY THANK YOU

“For tank container operators and leasing firms, collaboration with SAVVY is not only attractive because of SAVVYs market and technology leadership. SAVVY is the exclusive telematics provider of the worldwide largest tank container manufacturer, CIMC TANK. Our customers benefit from this twofold: they get intelligent tank containers from CIMC that are already equipped with SAVVY technology ex works. This way they do not have to worry about it anymore and save both installation time and money.”

Aida Kaeser
Co-founder & CEO SAVVY® Telematic Systems AG

In addition to comprehensive transport safety and automated production of required documents, the SAVVY® solution offers more cost optimisation potential. The portal provides extensive business intelligence functions to analyse the transport processes of chemical and transport companies with respect to individual indicators. These can be used to provide optimal support for capacity utilisation, asset management or to develop new business areas.

WE SAY THANK YOU

“Active, non-stop shipment monitoring, transmission every 5 minutes etc. is possible with our system but does not make sense technically and economically. I don’t eat constantly to prevent feeling hunger but eat when I am actually hungry. Our telematics systems are hybrid and equipped with self-learning software. Instead of bombarding users non-stop with data, we notify them when there are actual deviations which are of interest for their task.

The software takes care of the rest because it is developed to automatically recognize certain patterns, learn from them, and adjust to them accordingly. We are very proud of the self-learning capacity of our software, resulting from long-standing experience in the development of highly complex algorithms. The advantage of digitisation is after all to automate flows to free employees from mindless, repetitive tasks. Valuable time is then available for tasks that truly add value.”

Press report from 16. March 2017

In cooperation with the freight wagon rental company, TRANSWAGGON (TWA), ScandFibre Logistics (SFL) evaluated a number of telematics providers with respect to, among other things, tracking goods (via GPS/GNSS). Choosing from a number of telematics providers, both companies decided on the Swiss firm, SAVVY® Telematic Systems AG. SAVVY best meets the high requirements of TWA and  SFL,  and proved to be the most reliable and competent telematics provider.

Functionalities on the 50 TWA freight wagons used across Europe in SFL transport and SAVVY team’s service quality were then subjected to intense testing. Battery drain in the cold Scandinavian countries, the accompanying risk of battery self-discharge, and the configuration flexibility of the SAVVY® Cargo Trac-I telematics units were a major focus.

SAVVY provides precise position data in real-time along the entire route – from freight wagon loading to unloading – with an accuracy of up to 2 metres including shock detection with configurable thresholds in x.y, and z axes. At over 1000 POIs (points of interest, also known as geofences) such as loading and unloading points, or switch yards, the distance (air or rail route) up to the next 10 POIs is displayed with each position report. In addition to transmitting position data and the resulting route deviation and performance data, the system provides additional shock detection data.

A special highlight is that SAVVY records updates, configuration changes etc. ‘over the air’ on the devices; additional sensors to e.g. indicate temperature or overloading can also be installed.

Completely maintenance-free telematics devices, precise and reliable data, robustness and stability even under the harshest conditions at temperatures of up to -40°Celsius are compelling. In November 2016, TWA, SFL, and SAVVY signed a 5-year (GPS information) contract. Installation on the rest of the 3,000 freight wagons will begin in February 2017.

WE SAY THANK YOU

“All three companies complement each other perfectly, and have introduced something uniquely innovative into the process of digitalising transport and logistics for the forestry and paper industries on the Scandinavian market. We are proud we can provide top quality even under the harshest climatic conditions. The competitive advantages are obvious!”

Aida Kaeser
Co-founder & CEO SAVVY® Telematic Systems AG
FEEDBACK

“Because we are a company that works across borders, with the daily challenge of distributing vacant wagons also used for forwarding goods, it is always important for TWA to know where its approximately 13,500 freight wagons are located. We already have a specially developed market-leading planning system in place. With SAVVY Telematic Systems we can now easily also show our customers exactly where their goods and wagons are located with an accuracy of two metres.

Digitalisation makes it possible to provide new generation information access to our technicians, transport planners, and current and future customers. Regardless of country and on which railroad the goods are shipped. We plan to develop the TRANSWAGGON brand systems so that they do more than just record geo-data, and, under the name TWA Freight Buddy, TFB for short –  provide all of our customers with improved digital services for their goods transports.”

Anders Nilsson
Managing Director TRANSWAGGON AB, Helsingborg
FEEDBACK

“We at ScandFibre work closely with TWA and SAVVY to prepare ourselves and our Rail17 System for the future digitalisation of the European railroads.”

Press report from 21. October 2016
SAVVY® Telematic gewinnt Telematik Award 2016 in der Container Logistik

„SAVVY® Synergy Enterprise – Das am besten durchdachte Telematik-Portalsystem am Markt“

It’s the “Oscar” of the telematics sector. And competition in 2016 was especially fierce for the respected award. This year, 276 submissions competed for the prize, awarded for automotive telematics every two years. Of the total submitted solutions – according to the organizer all very impressive in terms of performance – 42 were nominated for the 10 award categories.

SAVVY® Telematic Systems AG, with its management and logistics process analysis portal solution, SAVVY® Synergy Enterprise, was among the nominees. The software solution combines management, collaboration and business intelligence functions to control complex logistics company-wide. The jury of top-notch experts presented SAVVY with the Telematic Award at the end of September. “SAVVY® Synergy Enterprise is a comprehensive and especially user-friendly telematics system. It is also the most sophisticated system on the market”, says Jury Chair, Prof. Birgit Wilkes.

Independent evaluation process

Within the scope of the evaluation, specialised journalists, users and branch analysts belonging to the jury focus mainly on the respective company, its rationale and background, sales power, reputation, and particularly on important service and support issues. The scientists on the jury are in charge of evaluating the submitted solutions from a technological perspective. Under the supervision of the jury chair, Prof. Birgit Wilkes from the Technical University of Wildau, all of the submissions are controlled, assessed, and evaluated. As a result, the Telematic Awards is not only a distinction for a specific solution but also for the company itself. The winner is chosen on the basis of how well the system’s technology meets user requirements, and on the ability of the telematics provider to provide high quality pre-sales information and advice to the customer as well as comprehensive post-sales support. Sponsors are excluded from the call for proposals, according to TelmatikMarkt.de.

Recognised for in-depth understanding of processes and great advantages thanks to system integration

WE SAY THANK YOU

“We are very proud to have come out as the winner in such a demanding environment. Container logistics is an important target segment for us”, SAVVY CEO Paul Kaeser comments on receiving the distinction. “The award confirms both that telematics-based digitalisation is recognised as relevant for logistics companies and that the added value of our SAVVY® Synergy collaboration platform in the logistics sector is undisputed.”

Aida Kaeser
Co-founder & CEO SAVVY® Telematic Systems AG

Isolated solution or cross-system efficiency?

There have been repeated complaints – most recently in the telematics study conducted in 2015  by the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University, Ravensburg, Germany – that there are no interface standards for telematics applications. But why wait for an international standard when there has been an accepted technological alternative for some time now?

The key to success lies in using portal systems like SAVVY® Synergy Enterprise which process data from a broad range of telematics providers, turn them into valuable KPIs and display them on user-friendly dashboards in a meaningful way. The portals integrate telematics devices and sensors from different manufacturers to create high-performance systems. The efficiency gains and quickly achieved ROI are a result of intelligent data evaluation combined with information from business IT. Combining this with a state-of-the-art logistics portal to integrate the systems means that the broad range of telematics providers and the possible heterogeneity of interfaces do not compromise this process. On the contrary, the SAVVY® Synergy Portal makes it possible to use this diversity to optimise fleet and equipment management as well increase resource efficiency regardless of future developments and differentiations in telematics systems (also known as GPS).

WE SAY THANK YOU

“SAVVY® Synergy Enterprise Portal’s business intelligence has been proven to ensure high cross-system efficiency in a broad range of telematics and IT infrastructures. In this scenario, portal systems are by no means makeshift solutions designed to compensate the lack of interface standards. Their openness make it possible worldwide to integrate the existing components to create overall solutions.

Their flexibility ensures that telematics infrastructures remain future-proof. So, no matter how logistics and smart devices develop in the era of Industry 4.0, our SAVVY® Synergy Portal will always be at the fore of these developments as an open collaboration platform.”

HOYER-Group Fahrzeug

SAVVY® Telematic Systems AG als Spezialist für hochentwickelte Telematik Systemlösungen zählt zu den exklusiven Lieferanten des Hamburger Logistikunternehmens HOYER.

HOYER is a global market leader for transporting liquid loads by road, rail, and sea. To efficiently manage its tank containers for temperature-controlled shipments, HOYER relies on SAVVY® competence. After a successful pilot phase and in its capacity as an exclusive technology partner, SAVVY® is integrating its intelligent telematics system solution in a broad range of logistics processes at HOYER. To this end, the tank containers are equipped with the SAVVY® telematic units CargoTrac and/or FleetTrac and connected to SAVVY®’s cloud-based Synergy Portal.

Thanks to SAVVY® Synergy Portal’s customised interface, both HOYER employees and end customers have permanent access to tank container data allowing them to collaborate and optimise their logistics process control. Among other things, continuous temperature monitoring as well as active temperature control during the entire transport cycle make uninterrupted automated quality proofs possible. By using the new technology, HOYER aims to further increase transport and logistics productivity as well as service quality for business customers and to maintain its competitive advantage.

High performance tracking & tracing makes it possible to monitor all shipments precisely in real-time. SAVVY® telematics units record a wide range of sensor values and tracking data such as circulation and idle times, unit operating hours and filling levels, temperatures, change in position and shocks. Any and all target value deviations are logged and saved reliably. If a unit reports disruptions or the temperature falls below the target value, the system sets off an alarm. Monitoring the container temperature protects thereby protects the shipment value and prevents expensive damage events in products with low hysteresis such as adhesives, which can be damaged in the event of temperature deviations of even only 1 degree Celsius.
